Some Neocons in the US thought of a great plan, dating back to the mid-20th century. It was to build a Kurdish state encompassing four Middle Eastern countries. Within two decades of the 21st century, dreams have long faded into history. Unfortunately, some in the West continue to hallucinate. Hence, it is important to warn the public in the US: Beware of Türkiye in Syria. Only because today, there is the harsh reality of the rising powers of the East like Türkiye on the prowl.
SYRIA AND THE US TROOPS
Currently, there are US troops, stationed in numerous bases across Syria. They are strategically deployed to counterbalance other powers in the region. One of them is the Syrian regime. It survived the Arab Spring. It controls Damascus. Russia helps.
The other two are regional powers, Iran and Türkiye. While the former operates there with proxies, the latter has a massive force across the border. Either is a formidable force to be reckoned with. However, Türkiye also has “Mîsâk-ı Millî ” in the plans.
The problem for the US is that the US troops are stationed in the Turkish-declared zone. In 1983, 241 US Marines never came home because they were deployed in yet another no-no zone in the Middle East. History does not need to be repeated, one would warn!
US: Beware of Türkiye in Syria
Mîsâk-ı Millî and China
The US must beware of Türkiye in Syria because it will eventually make a final push forward to achieve the Mîsâk-ı Millî there. When it does, the US better be with Türkiye because the stakes would be bigger than losing prospects in Syria.
Mîsâk-ı Millî
Mîsâk-ı Millî means Turkish National Pact. It primarily defined the borders of Türkiye, envisioned by Young Turks, led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1920. Besides Türkiye proper, it also included the northern third of Iraq, Syria, and Greece, along with twelve islands in the Aegean Sea. Some additional territories from Bulgaria and the Caucasus were part of it as well.
Atatürk declared the Mîsâk-ı Millî in a speech. He said, “It is the nation’s iron fist that writes the Nation’s Oath which is the main principle of our independence to the annals of history.” The modern Republic of Türkiye last tabled the Mîsâk-ı Millî again in the Treaty of Lausanne, a hundred years ago. The Western world rightly worries if Türkiye will revisit the burning issue.
China
China will be the primary beneficiary when there will be a friction among Western allies. Türkiye’s Mîsâk-ı Millî, on that note, fits right with the Belt and Road Initiative of China. For example, the rail and road pathway from Basra, Iraq to the Turkish border benefits from the Mîsâk-ı Millî principles.
One-third of the most precarious section of this pathway will be well protected under Turkish control in northern Iraq.
China will also benefit if Türkiye declares Mîsâk-ı Millî. Simply because, Mîsâk-ı Millî, coupled with Mavi Vatan will make Türkiye a regional power soon to become a global power. China with Türkiye and the rest of the Turkic Republics in Central Asia will ensure smooth sailing on the BLT.
US: Beware of Türkiye in Syria
Stop Playing with Fire
Back to Donald J. Trump: The decision of the 45th President to pull all US troops from Syria in 2020 was realistic.
In the long term, he foresaw the inevitability of the Mîsâk-ı Millî and China connection.
Unfortunately, the Globalists and Neocons of today still do not.
Last Vestiges of the US Power in the Middle East
The decision to pull out two hundred or so US troops from Syria was a wise decision for the 45th president. No superpower can project power with a few hundred soldiers anywhere on Planet Earth in the New World Order.
In the Middle East, the US cannot even send the 6th Fleet with confidence to the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Troubled Israel aside, the only other safe harbors for the US Navy in the region are in the Gulf.
What a turnaround from 1937 and 1948 when Saudi Arabia and Israel came on board as part of the US hegemony in the region! A century later, there may be no traces of the US hegemony in the region if Washington DC does not wake up.
All the while, confronting the massive armed forces of Türkiye across the border is the last thing the US would want to see taking place in Syria. Unfortunately, having a few hundred US troops in bed with what Türkiye calls “terrorists” there would result in nothing but that.
What is at Stake for the US
In that regard, it would be better that the US pulls troops out of Syria long before Türkiye enters Syria with a massive armed force. The risk is not that there will be a clash with the Turkish Armed Forces. Rather, the US will look “defeated” to the likes of China.
In the NATO Madrid Summit 2022, a similar scenario took place. Türkiye declared a “manifesto” and left the Biden Administration helpless. China and the rest witnessed the miserable state of the US before the Turkish brinkmanship.
In Syria, the Turkish military move will elevate the leadership status of Turkiye to a new level. The message will resonate beyond the Politburo of China. Muslim ummah will feel empowered, along with Turkic states in Central Asia.
The rest of the world will also view the Turkish incursion to northern Syria more than what it would be with the US presence there. Pulling back in the face of massive Turkish force moving in, must be the last thing anyone would like to see in the US.
US: Beware of Türkiye in Syria
Misak-i Milli Eventuality of Türkiye
Türkiye will declare Mîsâk-ı Millî. The only thing that is not clear about it is when. That is what the US must understand at this stage. Like I mentioned, Donald J. Trump immediately understood it in Buenos Aires after a brief encounter with his counterpart.
He understood what the Turkish red line is. Hence, he reacted promptly. No one in their right mind in the West or the East would want to challenge Türkiye militarily. Turks would not wish to claim any more than what Misak-i Milli declared in 1920.
The mistake the US can make now would be a historical catastrophe. No one should think Türkiye will back down from the Mîsâk-ı Millî. Türkiye will play the Zero-Sum Game against any power when implementing it. That’s why the US must pull out of Syria sooner than later.
